Pocket PCs have plenty of functions, but the one most average users are looking for when they shop for one is the ability to surf the internet wherever they go. However with the exception of smart phones, which have to be purchased through a cellular telephone provider, pocket PCs need to be near a wireless hotspot in order to call up information on Richmond Hill townhouses from the internet. For this reason, if you don't already have a wireless router in your house, you may want to get one to go with your pocket PC. We'll tell you all about wireless routers here.

When you purchase an internet plan from a provider, they connect you to their network via a modem. If you want to share internet access among multiple computers, you must purchase a router. Most routers these days are wireless, which means the computers belonging to the network don't actually have to be plugged into the device to access the internet. Instead, the router fills its owner's Richmond VA homes with extremely high frequency radio waves, which the router and a computer use to send information back and forth.

The standard for wireless network transmissions is 802.11 at either 2.4 or 5 GHz. You can get internet speeds of between 11 and 300 Mbps depending on which type of router you purchase. Wireless B is the oldest standard, which will give you 11 Mbps, followed by G at around 54 Mbps. The newest is N, which can give you speeds up to 300 Mbps. Price will usually be a consideration when choosing a wireless router for your loft. Toronto electronics retailers generally sell them for around $80 to $200 depending on which standard you choose.

There are many different brands of wireless router, with the top selling companies being 3-Com, Belkin, D-Link and Linksys, but they perform so similarly that it's not worth putting the same amount of thought into choosing one that you put into picking Niagara Falls hotels in Canada. You should, however, make sure that your computer is compatible with it (all new computers will work on any wireless router, but you may need to buy a compatible network card to connect old ones). You should also choose one with password protection that works on the WPA2 encryption standard to keep your information safe.

You can buy a wireless router from almost any electronics store, such as Future Shop, Best Buy, and even Staples to help you learn English in Toronto. Many internet providers also have combined modem/wireless routers available for users with laptops. Some provide them free with your plan, others have to be rented from the company. Contact them to see what your options are.
